Jura J80 Overview

Since you are reading this article on the Jura J80, it probably means that you take your coffee seriously.

You’re no doubt looking for a bean-to-cup automatic coffee machine that makes an exceptional cup of coffee with ease.

Does the Jura J80 make a great cup of coffee?

If you have done any research then you have likely come to learn that Jura is a leader in coffee machines that are well engineered, are easy to use and make some of the finest espressos and coffee drinks that can be made at home.

The coffee is so good, you will never want to spend money at a High Street coffee shop again!

You won’t be disappointed by any of the Jura coffee machines, but we will only be looking at the features of the Jura J80 for this overview.

Read on to see what all the fuss is about.

Ease of use?

No products found. The Jura J80 has so many features that it could seem like it is difficult to use or at least involve some learning curve.

It is actually not the case.

Once you have your J80 out of the box, it only takes a few minutes to set up. Take 5 more minutes to personalise the settings of your favourite coffee and it becomes even simpler to use.

Once out of the box you should select what your water hardness level is so the machine can recommend a descaling routine. It will alert you when it is time to descale. Doing so is as simple as dropping a tablet into the bypass chute and pressing a button.

Next you will want to use the brilliant TFT display with the rotary dial to scroll through the different options for customising your coffees.

Adjust how much water you want to use for your espresso. How hot do you like it? Make your selection out of two different temperature settings. If you like it strong, you can choose how strong.

Once you have it customised you can save the settings and have an image and name for the drink on the display. Simply press the button and have your personalised coffee ready in seconds.

The water tank holds 2 litres of water which is enough for most people to last a week. It can be used with a water filter if you want to just use tap water, Since it is side loading, it is very easy to refill and doesn’t require a massive amount of clearance to take it off and replace it.

The bean hopper is top loaded but flush with the top of the machine. It is easy to fill and also doesn’t require much clearance.

A seemingly small detail that I really love is that you don’t need to move your cup for milk based coffee drinks. The milk and coffee are both issued from the same spout. There is another spout for when you just want espresso. This means you can walk away from the machine while your cappuccino or latte is being made.

Maybe not a big deal to some people, but others might appreciate not having to hover over the machine while the coffee is being prepared.

Best Features of the Jura J80?

Powerful Thermoblock and Pressure

The thermoblock within the J80 is of the same powerful level as some professional coffee machines that you would find in a high end coffee house. It is able to heat the water quickly to make your coffee fast.

At 15 bars of pressure, the hot water is forced through the grinds and extracts the oils to give you that tell tale sign of a superb coffee. The crema. A rich layer of foamy espresso that floats on the top of the deep, bitter coffee underneath.

Multi-Level Conical Grinder

No self respecting bean-to-cup machine would use anything other than a burr grinder. A burr grinder gives a consistent coarseness to your beans every time.

Jura has perfected the burr grinder by using multi-levels and just the right angle of the cone. This means that you can grind the beans in less time and with less heating up of the beans as they grind. That heat caused by the gears can lead to a bitter coffee so it’s no small thing that Jura has reduced that.

The grinder is also one of the quietest on the market. Many burr grinders are loud enough to wake the dead, but the Jura multi-level conical grinder won’t disturb anybody in your house.

Fine Foam Froth Technology

Different coffee drinks should have different density of milk froth. A cappuccino could use a nice light and airy froth on top while a latte might benefit from a more dense milk froth.

If you like layered coffee drinks where you have a layer of milk then coffee and finally foam on top, it is made easy by the dial that controls the density of the foam. It can be done on the fly while the milk is frothing, giving you a lot of control over the finished product.

TFT Display

The various coffee drinks are displayed on a crisp and lifelike display. It’s easy to see what you are making by scrolling through the images using the rotary dial. When you see a drink you like, press the button and it will brew it in seconds.

Use the display and dial to scroll through the settings for each of the coffee drinks and customise your favourite drink. Save the settings and the display will show the drink along with the name you give it. Then whenever you want it, it is right there on the brilliant display ready to be made for you.

Adjustable Height and Width for Spouts

Making a large coffee drink can be done all in one cup since the height of the spout can be adjusted to up to 6 inches.

No need to make your coffee in steps. Without enough you room you would need to froth the milk separately and brew the espresso into small shots to then be added to the milk in the right sized mug. Now you can do it all in one mug and without even needing to move your cup from frother to espresso spout.

If you are making double shots of espresso or any other coffee drink, there are two spouts which can be adjusted by width to accommodate two very wide mugs.

Final Thoughts on the Jura J80

With so many excellent options available in the Jura bean-to-cup collection, you can’t really pick the wrong one.

Jura is leading the way in terms of high standards when it comes to making premium automatic coffee machines.

They are dedicated to perfecting the process of making the highest quality espresso that can be had in the convenience of your own home. They engineer the machines to be as good a quality as you would find in many of the professional machines found in High Street coffee houses that cost tens of thousands.

So, how can you pick the Jura bean-to-cup machine that is best for you?

The first, most obvious, place to start is budget. Pick the machine that fits with how much you can spend. Luckily, the difference in price of the various machines reflects the number of features and luxury settings. No matter your budget, the quality of the coffee is consistent across all price ranges.

Every Jura machine has the same exacting standard for producing the finest coffee. All the bells and whistles are what you pay extra for.

If you have it in your budget to purchase the Jura J80, you will be getting a stylish, elegant and easy to use machine complete with lights and high tech display.
